  • El Greco’s famous work “The baptism of Christ”
    The famous Cretan artist Domenicos Theotokopoulos, also known as El Greco, was born in Heraklion, Crete in 1541 and died in Toledo, Spain in 1614. His works are found in some of the most important museums all over the world and become the focus of attention for scholars and lay visitors alike. KARATZI S.A. supported the municipality of Heraklion in its successful bid at Christies’ auction house for El Greco’s famous work “the baptism of Christ” which has since travelled on loan to various Greek and foreign museums.
  • El Greco: the Painter of God
    We are proud to be part of the team of sponsors who supported the production of the film “El Greco: the Painter of God”. It is a biographical film about the life of the Greek painter of the Spanish Renaissance, Domenicos Theotokopoulos based on a fictionalized biographical novel by Dimitris Siatopoulos. The film, directed by Yannis Smaragdis and written by Jackie Pavlenko was released in 2007, to wide international critical acclaim.
    Xersonisos Cultural Club was established in 1996, in Xersonisos, Heraklion by people who joint efforts and resources for their city’s development. The club is active in cultural and artistic events that actively promote the history and traditions of the area.
  • Kastrino’s Carnival
    Kastino Carnival is organized by the Municipality of Heraklion Municipality to celebrate the customs and traditions of the area with the participation of local schools, unions and associations in a Halloween parade, concerts, photography exhibitions and local product treasure hunts.

Partnering for sports

  • OFI FC
    OFI is one of the oldest sports clubs in Greece and the official football club of Heraklion. It was founded in 1925 and motivated the local community through the participation of the local boy scouts and the senior class of the Male Junior High of Heraklion City. OFI has a long list of highlights in its long history and is regarded as the football team of all Creatans.
    ATSALENIOS SPORTS CLUB was founded in 1951 by refugees from Minor Asia who resided in a suburb in the south side of Heraklion city. Atsalenios Sports Club is regarded as a nursery of young talent in football.
    ERGOTELIS FC was founded in August 1929 and got its name from an athlete from Knossos, who while exiled in Sicely by his political opponents, won first place at various athletic events. Nowadays, ERGOTELIS FC runs the biggest football academy not only in Crete but in Greece as well. Ergotelis was awarded 1st prize in Fairplay awards for the period 2008-2009.

  • HOST TOWN PROGRAM- Polis Ampithrion
    The Host Town Program-Polis Ampithrion was a special event of the Special Olympics World Summer Games ATHENS 2011. Nearly 10.000 athletes, coaches and Delegations of the Special Olympics National Program, from more than 180 countries around the globe, were hosted in towns and islands across the country. We are proud to have supported this noble cause by being hosts of a group of Olympic Athletes in Heraklion, offering them the opportunity to experience the Greek culture, to enjoy the natural beauty and taste traditional cuisine.
